Join us at the Historical Society on Wednesday, September 11 at 5:00 pm when the city dedicates the new 9/11 Memorial. The sculpture was created by Cherie Saleeby. It's central piece is a square of steel from one the fallen towers donated to the city by former Fire Chief Harry Small. The Historical Society and the Fire House will have exhibits and videos honoring the first responders. The Fire Rescue Honor Guard will stand by the memorial while Boy Scout Troup lowers the flag accompanied by Bagpiper Mike Nugent. Refreshments will be served at the Woman's Cub across the street.
Following the Dedication, the city and parks and rec will host a night of remembrance, recognition and celebration at the Cultural Center at 7:00 p.m. The Ceremony will feature guest speakers, musicians and a special performance by the Fort Lauderdale Symphonic Winds 65-piece band. Admission is free, however space is limited.
