Wayne Collier

 

Wayne Collier died peacefully at his home in Vero Beach on August 18 2022. Wayne was born in Pompano on October 22, 1932. He was 89 years old. He is survived by his loving wife Ruth of 64 years, three daughters, Karyn Hill (David), Joyce Russell (David), Kristi Fenner (Dana), 8 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Wayne is also survived by his brother Ben (Carolyn) sister Sandy (Clancy) and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Joyce Covington. Wayne graduated from Pompano Beach High School and the University of Florida with a degree in agriculture. He began his career as the assistant agriculture agent for Broward County. He then continued in agriculture as the first farmer to grow vine ripe tomatoes in the state of Florida. Triple C farms became one of the largest tomato operations in the state. After farming tomatoes, Wayne finished his career as a citrus grower in Indian River County. He was a director of the Broward County Farm Bureau for over 25 years and also active with the Farm Bureau at the state level. Wayne also held many leadership positions at the First Methodist Church of Pompano Beach. His two favorite traits were kindness and generosity and he was a living example of both. A celebration of life will be held at the Christ Church Pompano Beach Chapel (201 NE 2nd St) at noon on Friday, August 26 2022. A family visitation will precede the service at 11:30am in the chapel.
